How to Recover a TikTok Account: An Ultimate Guide

So you can’t log in to your TikTok account. Whatever the reason - you forgot your password, username, been hacked, or TikTok blocked you - you’ve faced this issue: how to recover your TikTok account access.

In this piece, we’ll cover all possible ways to get your TikTok account back.

Tip: back up your TikTok account in advance to avoid losing access to your media!

How to Recover a TikTok Account

The recovery option depends on the reason why you lost access to your account.

Can’t access your account: possible reasons

  • You have been banned

  • You have deleted your account (accidentally or intentionally)

  • You forgot your login or password

  • You have been hacked.

How to Recover a Blocked TikTok Account

If the reason why you can’t get access to your account is the account ban, much depends on the severity of the violation. If you violated the TikTok policy rigorously, and the profile was eventually deleted, it cannot be restored.

You can try to appeal, but there it’s unlikely you will get anything out of it. At the end of the day, you’ll have to create a new account.

Note that you should resist the temptation to upload videos from your old TikTok account to the new one because the chances that the new one will be banned too are quite high!

Try to analyse why your old account has been blocked and don’t repeat the same mistakes again.

How to Recover a Deleted TikTok Account

Previously, if you deleted your account, it was almost impossible to restore it.

To delete your own account, you need to head over Settings → Manage account →

Delete account.

Now, you can restore your account if 30 days have not yet passed after you deleted it.

To do this, open the TikTok app and log in with your deleted account credentials. You will see this message from TikTok:

Click on the Reactivate button and wait for several minutes.

Recover TikTok Account If You Forgot Login/Password

If you have signed up to TikTok through your phone, other social media, Google or Apple, you probably don’t have a password from your TikTok account. But if you created your account with email, you should have one. What to do if you forget it?

  1. Open the TikTok application.

  1. Find the Sign Up/Log In button or press Add New Account if you already have an account on TikTok.

  2. Choose Use phone/email/username.

  3. Choose Email/Username.

  4. Press Forgot password? or the question mark icon at the top right corner.

  5. Choose the desired way to reset the password and wait for the TikTok instructions.

Another way to restore your password is provided by TikTok:

How to find which email is linked to your account

Finding out which email address is linked to your TikTok account is relatively simple, as long as you already have access to your account:

  • Go to your TikTok profile and click the Settings and Privacy option

  • Select Manage Account

  • Choose Email

If you have already linked your email address, this is where you will see it.

On the other hand, if you haven’t got an email address linked, then you have the option to add it at this point.

Once you have entered your email address, you will receive an email from TikTok asking you to validate the address.

How to Recover Your TikTok Account Without Email or Phone Number

If you haven’t been able to reset your password because you didn’t link a phone number or an email address and can’t remember your password, there is still hope.

Contact TikTok directly for additional support. You can do this via Twitter, Instagram, or even try sending them a message through their feedback form.

How to Recover a TikTok Account If You Got Hacked

The recovery method is the same as the previous case - via email, login or phone number. You can also go to the TikTok menu (3 dots in the upper right corner) and find the Report a problem section to contact the support.

It will work if the scammers do not manage to delete the account and 30 days have not yet passed. But they can manage to remove all content, so it is better to do your best to avoid hacking.

How to Secure Your TikTok Account

It’s always easier to prevent than to deal with harmful consequences, so here are some tips on how you can secure your TikTok account.

  • Link your phone number to your account.

If someone tries to hack you and makes suspicious attempts to log in (for example, from another city, country or device), TikTok may ask you to confirm that it is you. In this case, linking your phone number is useful.

  • Come up with complex passwords and don’t choose the same on other social media, emails or accounts.

  • Do not click on suspicious links that may turn out to be scammy.
