How to Delete a YouTube Channel

Deleting a YouTube channel can be a daunting task for content creators who no longer wish to maintain their channel. While it may seem like a drastic decision, it's important to remember that sometimes it's necessary to start fresh. In this article, we'll guide you through the steps to delete your YouTube channel and provide tips on how to make the process as smooth as possible.

How to Delete a YouTube Channel

First, let’s determine if you want to delete your YouTube account or channel. YouTube account is bound to your Google account and is created by default when you log in to YouTube for the first time with your Gmail address. So if you want to delete your YouTube account, you will have to delete your entire Google account. Thus, you’ll lose emails, passwords, documents, and more stuff.

Deleting a YouTube channel is much less painful. It doesn’t force you to get rid of your entire Google account; however, it means you will permanently delete all the content you’ve ever posted on YouTube, including comments, messages, community posts, history, and videos, along with playlists themselves.

How to Delete Your YouTube Channel on Desktop

You can only delete your YouTube channel from the desktop. Google doesn’t allow you to do so from the mobile app. So here’s the course of action if you want to delete your YouTube channel for good:

  1. Visit the YouTube homepage and hit Menu in the top left.

  2. Scroll down and tap on the cog-shaped Settings button.

  3. In Settings, find the Advanced settings tab at the bottom of the menu on the left.

  4. Hit Delete channel.

Google will ask you to sign in to confirm your actions. Do so, and the YouTube channel will be deleted for good. There are several on-screen confirmations you’ll need to confirm, including Delete my content that cannot be undone.

Download Your YouTube Content Channel Before You Delete It

5. Click the Download button.

That’s it! Your old videos are saved, and you’re ready for a fresh start.
