Have you thought about visual themes or having an easier UI to look at?
At this point, we offer two color themes: light & dark. Full dark theme support for Ubuntu was released just recently in the version 26.0.0 ; no additional themes are on the roadmap right now. If the current look feels hard on the eyes, you can always let us know what exactly bothers you and send any design ideas to support@4kdownload.com—we’re always interested in your feedback!
Do you have any plans to add an option so that not all videos above 720p are encoded in AV1?
To answer this question, we want to make this clear: we don’t convert anything on our side — the app downloads the file exactly in the format that YouTube provides.
If you want to experiment a bit, you can try downloading the same video in different containers (MP4 or MKV) and see which one works best for your setup.
And if you have a specific link you’re concerned about, feel free to send it to our support team — they can check it directly and help you figure out what’s going on.

Why did you discontinue supporting Windows 7?
4K Video Downloader Plus is indeed no longer compatible with versions of Windows older than Windows 10. In fact, we officially stopped supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8 last year, as listed in the system requirements on our official website.
This decision aligns with Microsoft’s own support lifecycle:
- Windows 7 reached its end of support on January 14, 2020.
- Windows 8.1 reached its end of support on January 10, 2023.
As websites we support, such as YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, and others continue to improve, our software must adapt to changes in how content is delivered and protected. These updates often rely on system libraries and components that are not available or secure on outdated operating systems.
As a result, older systems like Windows 7 and 8 may no longer provide the necessary environment for 4K Video Downloader Plus to function reliably.
If you have access to a computer running Windows 10 (64-bit) or newer, macOS 12 or newer, or Ubuntu 22.04 (GNOME only) or newer, you are welcome to install the software there. Your license is lifetime and can be used on up to 3 devices.
Is it a custom pipeline/processor that runs on the 4K Video Downloader Plus backend?
We rely on a fully in-house parser and download pipeline. We do track yt-dlp’s progress, as sometimes their experience with handling restrictions is useful. But we aim to stay a step ahead. For example, one of the latest releases introduced YouTube bypass that was shipped about two weeks before yt-dlp released its own fix.
