How to Repost on Instagram: A Definitive Guide

Instagram is continuously evolving and enhancing its features. Yet, it still lacks the repost function, and it will barely ever implement it. Instagram itself explains this as a copyright issue and prioritises the rights of each user.

Happily, there are multiple methods to repost (or regram) on Instagram.

How to Repost on Instagram: All Possible Ways

Whatever the reason you need to repost Instagram content for, you can do it with your smartphone or desktop alike. Initially, let's figure out how you can easily regram Instagram content with your phone.

How to Repost on Instagram from a Mobile Phone

Screenshot and Repost on Instagram

If you don't want to install some obscure third-party apps on your smartphone, you can repost on Instagram by screenshotting a post.

This way of reposting is probably the most simple and less time-consuming. All you should do is to open an Instagram post, screenshot it and then publish it on Instagram as you normally would.

To make a screenshot of an Instagram post on iPhones up to X, press the Home and the Power buttons concurrently and then promptly release them. On iPhones X and later, you'll need to hold the side and the Volume up buttons and then release them quickly, too.

On Android smartphones, depending on the phone model, press the Power and the Volume down buttons or hold just the Power button and capture the screen. Samsung smartphone users should swipe their finger on the screen top to bottom (diagonally) or bottom to top (diagonally) to take a screenshot.

The shortcomings of the way are that you can't technically repost videos without a video recording of your phone screen, and such can lead to quality loss. Another drawback is that you're not able to regram the caption along with the photo.

So we'd better dig deeper into more high-level ways.

Instagram Reposts with Smartphone Apps

Google Play and AppStore are stuffed with numerous apps perfect for the purpose we're after. Apps like Regrann, Insta Repost for Instagram, Repost for Instagram are just some to name.

All of these applications work in a similar way. You download and install them on your mobile device and log in to your Instagram account with your credentials. Then find the content you want to repost within the app and, depending on the app's functionality, either share the post or copy its link.

After this straightforward course of action, the post will be published on your Instagram page with a repost badge or an original creator's credit.

How to Repost on Instagram from Desktop

Apart from mobile solutions, there is also desktop software which enables you to repost Instagram content.

Combin Scheduler for Instagram Reposts

This desktop app available for Windows, macOS and Ubuntu is a perfect solution if you want to share someone else's content on your own Instagram page.

Combin Scheduler works quite easily: you just need to install the software on your PC or Mac and log in with your Instagram credentials. To repost an Instagram post, open the Repost tab in Combin Scheduler and copy the URL of the required Instagram post. Then just paste the link into the necessary field.

Combin Scheduler uploads captions automatically, though you can delete it or change it if you like. You can change the position and colour of the repost badge, or eradicate it.

With Combin Scheduler, you can publish the post instantly or schedule its publication for minutes, hours, days, or weeks ahead. All you need to do is to pick time, date and press 'Create'.

Download an Instagram Image or Video with 4K Stogram

If you just want to share an Instagram post or save it for later on your device, you can download a photo or video on your smartphone, tablet, or desktop. 4K Stogram extracts a post's photo and will download it straight to your computer or mobile device.

To do so, log in within the app in your Instagram account, enter any Instagram username, hashtag, or location and click 'Subscribe'. Photos, videos, and stories will be saved on your PC automatically.

After you have downloaded an image or a video, you can post it straight to your Instagram page and write a caption. To post the content from the desktop, open Combin Scheduler and create a new post: just pick a file on your PC and publish it on Instagram from your machine!

How to Repost an Instagram Story

Unlike regular feed posts, Instagram enables you to repost stories, too. Here's how you can do so.

Repost Instagram Story in Your Own Story

You can share an Instagram story with your friends if you are mentioned in it. When someone tags you in their stories, you get the related notification 'Mentioned you in their story'.

To share the story, press 'Add to Your Story', press the '+' sign next to the 'Your Story' button. If the profile of a user who tagged you is public, the story will be shared smoothly, and their nickname will appear, too. Your followers can then easily head to the original story.

Repost Instagram Story to Your Instagram Grid

Instagram allows you not only to share your post into a story but vice versa, too. To do so, upload a story like you usually would. Then press three grey dots at the bottom right corner of the screen and choose 'Share as Post'. Edit the post, add a caption, hashtags, and anything else at your discretion, and create the post.

Note that this method works only if you want to share your own story as a post, not someone else's story unless they tagged you in their own one.

Repost Instagram Post in Your Story

You probably already know how to do it and have done it at least once in your lifetime. The process is easy: open a post you want to share in your stories and press the plane sign.

Then choose 'Add post to your story', edit it if you want and tap 'Send To'. Then choose 'Your Story' and send 'Share'. Simple.

Ethic Concept of Instagram Reposts

There is a surplus of reasons why you would want to repost Instagram content. Regardless, if you're going to share user-generated content on your brand's Instagram page or you want to share something exciting with your friends, you should follow some implicit rules of Instagram copyright and ethics.

You should ask for permission prior to posting any Instagram content belonging to another creator. When reposting, you use content created by other users', so you always need to ask for an owner's permission, even if you were initially going to credit the author.

You should tag the original owner of an image or video you’d like to regram. Tagging a creator of a regrammed post on Instagram is essential not only for politeness but also for the legitimacy of your actions because otherwise, it's a copyright violation. So always tag an author on an image or a video, or even credit them in a caption.
