What Are the System Requirements for Windows and macOS?
As operating systems evolve, their older versions eventually reach the end of official support from Microsoft and Apple. They stop receiving critical security updates, driver patches, and compatibility improvements. Because 4K Download applications rely on modern development frameworks (such as Qt) and up-to-date graphics drivers, we periodically revise the list of operating systems we test and officially support.
We always aim to provide the most stable, secure, and optimized experience for all users. That’s why our applications are tested on the latest and most popular OS versions, which not only receive regular updates but are also used by the majority of our community.
Several technological factors influence OS requirements:
- Framework updates. Our apps depend on modern versions of Qt and related libraries, which themselves discontinue support for outdated operating systems.
- Driver compatibility. Outdated GPU and system drivers can cause UI rendering issues (blank, black, or invisible windows, crashes) and cause the built-in browser to malfunction, so these drivers must be regularly updated, which unsupported OS versions no longer receive.
- Security and performance. Without regular updates from Microsoft or Apple, older OS versions become more vulnerable to system errors and security risks.
We don’t intentionally block older systems, but as core platform support ends, applications can become unstable or nonfunctional over time.
When we discover recurring issues on specific systems (for example, more frequent crashes on Windows 10 than on Windows 11), we issue a notice and recommend upgrading. As soon as it becomes clear that an OS version can no longer reliably run our applications, we inform users in advance and may prevent installation or automatic updates on incompatible systems.
Supported Windows Versions
Our applications are currently tested and supported on the latest, actively maintained versions of Windows.
- Windows 11 (recommended). Full compatibility and optimal performance.
- Windows 10. Still supported, but Microsoft ended official support on October 14, 2025. While 4K Download apps may continue to work, we can no longer guarantee stable performance or complete security on systems that no longer receive updates.
Whenever possible, we recommend upgrading to Windows 11 to take advantage of improved security, driver support, and system stability.
Note: 4K Download applications require a 64-bit edition of Windows because the underlying development framework (Qt) no longer supports 32-bit Windows. As a result, 32-bit systems are not supported.
Supported macOS Versions
Our apps are built and tested on recent, officially supported versions of macOS, starting from macOS 12 (Monterey) and newer.
Older versions of macOS cannot run current versions of our applications and are not supported. We recommend keeping your system up to date through System Settings > General > Software Update.
You can always find up-to-date OS compatibility details in the footer of each product page on the 4K Download website (the Compatibility section).
